Flagship fundraiser generates greater surplus to be invested in coaching and facilities

Another fun weekend to kick off the season for young players across the area

Our recent Festival of Football (31 August/1 September) attracted over 100 teams, with Girls’ sides making up around 25% of the total.

The Club’s flagship fundraiser generated more income which will be invested in coaching and facilities. Initial estimates are that surplus funds represent a 25% increase on the inaugural Airfield-based Festival of Football in 2023.

Finalists across the 14 events at the Festival came from Marlow Royals, Stoke Mandeville Bucks, Bourne End, Tring Tornadoes, Barton United, Kennington Athletic Girls, Risborough Rangers, Blewbury Amazons Spartans, Aylesbury United Juniors, Thame United, Rosehill Girls, St John’s, Chesham Athletic, Aylesbury Vale Dynamos, Chalfont Saint Leopards, Wendover Juniors and Chinnor Pink Panthers.

Meanwhile, HYFC sides ran out victorious in the U10 Rangers and U13 Rangers events and were runners up in the U9s, U11s, U12 Colts and U15s.

Festival Partners for the event were BWK Solicitors and Redrow South Midlands. PSP provided professional level PA and radio communications systems. Other supporters included DAF, IPro Solutions Ltd and Skyhawke Technologies UK Ltd, which each provided visitor car parking. Blooming Fruity, Haddenham’s community owned greengrocers, provided every team with orange slices. K&A Scaffolding supplied a stage for trophy presentations.

Alex Wagstaff, HYFC Club Chairman, said:

“It was great to see so many local teams across the age groups taking part and enjoying their football over the weekend. We welcome the increase in Girls teams this year that reflects our commitment to expanding the Girls’ game, backed by Haddenham Beer Festivals Trust. Our fifth Girls team started last weekend.

“Good luck to all HYFC sides for their league campaigns which are now underway!”

Parents of HYFC players volunteered across the weekend, stewarding and welcoming visitors as well as running the ‘Match Hatch’ refreshment facility at the Airfield Pavilion.

Alex Giles, chair of the Festival’s organising committee added:

“Another fun weekend to kick off the season for young players across the area. The Festival of Football would not have been possible without fantastic partners, supporters and volunteers. With the support of local residents and with sunshine rather than the forecast storms on Sunday, it showcased our wonderful Haddenham community.”
